What Is CNC Machining?

CNC machining, otherwise known as computer numerical control machining, is an automated manufacturing process. Traditional metal turning and milling tools are computer-controlled for increased precision, repeatability, speed, accuracy, and affordability.

A CAD (computer-aided design) described the geometry of your final part to the computer. This design is then translated into the type of code used by the CNC machine so it can produce your plastic, glass, acrylic or metal part. We specialize in metal CNC machining.

What Is A CNC Machine?

A CNC machine uses tools like lasers, drills, mills, routers, and lathes controlled by computer programming. So, unlike with traditional metal turning, milling, or stamping, a CNC machinist must know both metal forming techniques and the ins and outs of precision computer programming.

With some machines the tools are moved by the computer, with others the computer moves the object instead of the tools. Often, both the part and the tools move together, quickly and efficiently.

  • 3-Axis CNC Machines – great for most basic geometric shapes. The tools move while the bed holding your part stays still.
  • 4-Axis CNC Machines – a better choice for angled features. The bed rotates 360 degrees as the tool moves. This can save you time and money on having to design multiple fixtures and resetting the machine for each fixture.
  • 5-Axis CNC Machines – best for complex shapes. With this option, both the tool head and the machine bed move. The bed can often move in multiple angles to produce 3D shapes quickly and at high accuracy.

Turning Possibilities Into Realities

The types of metal components that can be designed and created using CNC machining services are endless. This precision manufacturing capability is compatible with the most common metal types, including stainless steel, copper, aluminum, brass, and titanium. Produce parts, prototypes, tooling, or full production runs.

Metal Parts Manufacturing For Your Industry

Do you need custom-shaped parts creation for personal or commercial use? Create a prototype, make a repair, replace a part, or produce something completely new and innovative. We love unique and complex parts challenges. Let’s put CNC machining to work for you.

Parts, Prototypes & Tooling

Order complete products or use CNC turning and milling to produce tooling to use during our popular hydroforming processes. We can handle your small to medium parts manufacturing needs and are one of the very few metal spinners in the country that is certified through Lockheed Martin.
